Contact with the Artist - Twitter

Although I had already emailed the management of Example for permission to use the song, I thought I would take a more modern, direct approach to the artist himself through Twitter.

Analysis of a Previous Students A2 Coursework

Analysis of Previous Students A2 Coursework

I am going to analyse previous students work from past year for this task as they have created videos similar to how I intend my video to look, although did not have the same narrative. I will analyse what typical conventions they have also included and how I could incorporate them into my video as the dubstep genre does not really have any clear conventions therefore I will use conventions from other genres to create my video.
I decided to begin by analyzing Josh Barry’s music video, who completed his music video last year. He incorporated a narrative into his performance and displayed a young man expressing his unrequited love for the woman in the video. I think it is a successful video with the two storylines being shown side-by-side displaying how the story could unfold. Furthermore, I think the shots used could have been better as it looks very amateur compared to others that I have seen. For my video I will ensure I shoot everything as many times until I am happy with the footage, as this is the one thing that I feel will bring my grade down.
For the digipak I decided to analyse Reece Tan’s previous A2 Coursework as he done a similar genre to me. I feel as if it looks very simple but not in a good way. I think it looks very cheaply shot and rather than having a low quality effect on the images, they just look unprofessional, which is something I believe is a risk when creating the digipak. Having said that, the shot with the passport, plane ticket and cigarettes I find effective and can imagine that inside a professional, well-established artists digipak, although I do not find the rest of the digipak up to the standard I expect mine to be and can not imagine it on a shelf in HMV. He has most of the codes and conventions throughout the digipak, and in that sense it is successful, although in my opinion and personal preference it is not graphically pleasing and does no appeal to me if I saw it in a shop or online.

Analysis of a Band / Artist Magazine Adverts

I looked at magazines adverts of bands and artists and how they are represented and how they promote their product. This has given me an insight into how I could display and design my magazine advert and how they would be perceived by the audience viewing it. It has also given me an insight into the standard needed to appeal to mass marketing audiences.

Conventions of Music Videos

Conventions of a Music Video by

Here I described the typical conventions of music videos as well as going in depth with two other genres close to the genre of my music video, in this case being Pop and Drum & Bass / Dubstep.
